With assets running into billions of naira, they are light years apart from the past crops of old comedians who wait on people for meager rations of life.

They may look funny and unserious, but they are cavorting to the bank and living their dreams. Ali Baba, the father of stand-up comedians in Nigeria, aptly captured in words, the profitability of comedy business when he said: “comedy is a funny business, a very big business.”

After a careful study of the careers of these successful comedians, Showtime came to the conclusion that a number of them are outstanding. Here are the top 10 in this branch of entertainment in terms of their assets, the money they charge per show, the various products or corporate endorsements they did, and their established brands from which they make steady income.

With over thirty years of performing on stage and hosting events for almost all Nigeria’s former presidents and the present one, Ali Baba sits at the apex. Alibaba makes his money through a chain of businesses in Lagos: as a reputed motivational speaker, a professional comedian patronised by almost all the big brands and political bigwigs in the country. His net worth is estimated to be over 3 billion naira. It is estimated that he performs in a minimum of two events weekly at an average rate of 4 to 4.5million naira per event. That would add up to about 400 million naira per annum!

He has been associated with many companies, signing different endorsement contracts in the last six years. He also has an impressive list of branding deals with Amstel Malta, Globacom Ltd. and a host of others. With his sold-out shows in South African, London, and even in far away America, and on his Basketmouth Uncensored platform, the comedian has been so consistent since he came to limelight.

His assets are estimated to be worth 2 billion naira. His annual income may be in excess of 192 million, while endorsement deals run into over 120 million annually. His international show, Basketmouth Uncensored, rakes in an estimated 100million naira. This artiste makes over 360 million annually.

TMZ has gotten hold of a video depicting Beyonce's sister Solange   punching, kicking, and hitting Jay Z in an elevator.

 TMZ Reports  Jay Z was ferociously assaulted by Beyonce‘s sister Solange  … who was wildly kicking and swinging at him inside an elevator … and the attack was captured on surveillance video … obtained by TMZ.         According to our sources, it all went down at a Met Gala after party last week at the Standard Hotel in NYC.  In the video … Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange step into the elevator … and then Solange goes crazy, screaming at Jay before unleashing a violent attack.  A large man — who appears to be a bodyguard — attempts to hold Solange back, but she manages to connect at least 3 times.  At one point Solange throws a kick and Jay grabs her foot, but never attempts to strike her.  Beyonce stands by without getting physically involved. It’s unclear what triggered the fight.   And this is interesting.  When you look closely, you see the bodyguard hit the emergency stop switch on the 12th floor — mid fight — presumably to keep the fight private.

PRAYERS: 15 Shot Over 12-Hour Span In Chicago (DETAILS)

A 56-year-old woman is among the 15 wounded in Shooting in Chicago between Thursday afternoon and early Friday morning.  

The shootings, which occurred during a 12-hour span, were not fatal. Police said that no arrests have been made in any of the incidents. 

ccording to NBC:

• A 25-year-old man walked into a Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his left hand early Friday. He said he was on the 7800 block of South Shore Drive at about 4:10 a.m. when he heard gunfire and then felt pain.
• Two men, believed to be in their 20s, were shot at about 1:20 a.m. on the 300 block of East 136th Street, in the city’s far south side Riverdale neighborhood. One of them, shot in the leg, was in stable condition. The other man’s injuries were more serious. He took a bullet to the chest, police said.
• A 24-year-old man was shot at about 1:15 a.m. on the 4500 block of South Wabash Avenue. The victim was shot in the buttocks and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was listed in stable condition.
• A 1 a.m. shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood left a 25-year-old man injured. Police said he was walking in the 100 block of South Pulaski Road when a vehicle pulled up and someone from inside opened fire. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds to his arm and chest.
• One teen and two men were injured in a shooting on the 9500 block of South Woodlawn Avenue, in the city’s Pullman neighborhood, at about 11:30 p.m. The two were standing on the sidewalk when a dark-colored seden pulled up next to them and someone from inside opened fire, police said. A 16-year-old and a 23-year-old were both shot in the right thigh and both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in stable condition, police said. Later, a 26-year-old man who was also wounded in the shooting was dropped off by friends at Advocate Trinity Hospital, police said. The man, who was shot in the thigh and back, was later transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
• Two men were injured in a shooting on the 1200 block of West Touhy Avenue at about 10:50 p.m. Authorities said the men, aged 36 and 37 years, were attending a BBQ in the city’s Rogers Park neighborhood when a vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, police said. The 37-year-old was shot several times and taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in serious condition. The other man was shot in the leg and taken also taken to Saint Francis Hospital in stable condition, police said.
• A male and female — ages unconfirmed by early Friday morning — were injured in a shooting on the 10400 block of South Wentworth Avenue, in the city’s far south side Roseland neighborhood, at about 9:20 p.m.
• A man told police he was walking on the sidewalk in the 11500 block of South Eggleston Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. when he heard shot and realized he’d been hit. He was driven by an acquaintance to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound to the left hand, police said.
• A 20-year-old man said he was standing on the sidewalk in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue at about 7:20 p.m. when a vehicle drove up and someone inside fired at him, police said. The man told police that he then felt pain and realized he had been shot in the leg. He was listed in good condition, police said. Hospital information was not immediately available.
• A 56-year-old woman was shot in the foot at about 5:15 p.m. while on the 0-100 block of East 100th Place, police said. She was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, authorities said.

On Friday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel planned to launch a new initiative to curb the gun violence in Chicago. We wish the victims in the shootings a speedy recovery.

Chris Brown Sentenced To Additional 131 Days Behind Bars After Admitting To Probation Violation (DETAILS)

 UPDATE 12:18 PM EST:

According to new reports, Chris Brown did not admit to assaulting the alleged victim in his D.C. criminal trial. His lawyer, Mark Geragos tells TMZ Brown only admitted to violating his probation but did not get more specific than that.    The site reports:             Geragos tells us … HE — not Chris — conceded there was a factual basis to conclude his client violated probation based on the police report. What’s more, Geragos says there’s no way the D.C. prosecutor could use Brown’s admission as a confession, because the standard of proof in a criminal case is much higher than in a probation hearing.    Geragos says he merely told the Rihanna judge it’s “more likely than not” that Chris screwed up in D.C.  In a criminal trial, the prosecutor must show Chris screwed up beyond a reasonable doubt.

2014 is really not Chris Brown's year. 

The 25-year-old singing sensation was just sentenced to a year in prison. after he admitted toviolating his probation in the Rihanna case  during a court hearing yesterday.  According to TMZ Breezy has been awarded “time served” and is supposed to spend an additional 131 days behind bars, as the first 234 days he’s spent in jail and rehab will be taken into account.   But maybe Breezy hasn’t run out of luck just yet.            In a bizarre turn of events, the site reports that he may actually get out sometime this week instead. Yes, it could very well happen, as the site reports:    But we’re told the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept has been releasing inmates sentenced to 1 year after 240 days.  And here’s the thing.  Chris gets credit for 2 days for every 1 he served behind bars, so when you add it up, he has credit for 234 days — 6 days shy.  So he could be released in days.        The judge could have given him 4 years in jail, but showed leniency since his violent behavior may have been connected to the fact that he’s bipolar. Chris has been ordered to attend therapy sessions two times a week, as well as do random drug testing three times every week.           Here’s the thing – Even if he does get to come home, Chris' D.C. assault trial  is set to start in the following months so his legal troubles aren’t over just yet. We’re wishing you luck Breezy.
